Statements in Debates
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. It will be good to hear what we get when we come back tomorrow in tomorrow’s session. Again, I would like to find out. I don’t understand it, but they are presently looking at recruiting these positions. I understand that Human Resources is looking at some of the names that were put forward. Can the Minister indicate on whether these positions will be filled not tomorrow, but within the next week or so? Thank you.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I’d like to thank Mr. Ramsay for bringing up the issue of health services. Mr. Speaker, on September 14th, 2006, I was able to travel to Ulukhaktok and speak with the local leaders and public in general. During this visit, Mr. Speaker, a concern was raised by the community leaders that the hamlet of Ulukhaktok has been without the following front-line workers for a number of months: social worker, mental health worker, and community wellness worker.
Mr. Speaker, front-line workers play a major role in small communities in terms of addressing and responding to social and...

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I would just like to ask the Minister, like I said earlier, it has been going on for the past six, seven, or eight months now. Why is it taking so long for the department to recruit these people? Thank you.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, in my Member’s statement today I talked about the need for the recruitment of front-line workers in Ulukhaktok. It has been some time now since the recruitment has been going on for the past year or so. Presently, just last week on the radio, there is a petition going on in regard to the liquor, or they can’t control liquor in the community. That is just one of the small cases that is being identified right now. I would like to ask the Minister of Health and Social Services, I understand that the recruitment would go through Human Resources, through...
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I would like to start by welcoming my colleagues on their safe return to Yellowknife for the Fifth Session of the 15th Legislative Assembly.
Mr. Speaker, since late August and through the month of September 2006 and to this day, there are over 200 beluga whales feeding in our traditional territorial Husky Lakes. The Inuvialuit utilize Husky Lakes as a traditional lake for fishing and hunting ground in the spring, fall and winter for subsistence purposes. The Inuvialuit are known to respect all wildlife and marine mammals. The Tuktoyaktuk Hunters' and Trappers'...
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, I give notice that on Thursday, October 19, 2006, I will move that Bill 14, An Act to Amend the Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Act, No. 2, be read for the first time. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, on numerous occasions I’ve raised the need for granular material for communities without year-round access to granular materials. Today I will be more specific to try and address the need for granular materials to upgrade the roads and driveways in Tuktoyaktuk.
Mr. Speaker, many years ago, about 1955, the American government -- or should I say DEW Line site -- quarried granular material from along the shores of Tuktoyaktuk to accommodate the buildings and roads and gravel pad to construct the DEW Line facility. Last year, during the NWTAC meeting in...
Thank you, Mr. Roland. Next I have Mr. Menicoche.
