Statements in Debates

So, at the moment are there any camps that are operating already and are we seeking more in this last proposal that went out? Thank you.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 58)

Thank you. Just under the wilderness camps that were mentioned earlier with corrections, I was hoping to see more funds in there, but I’ll get into that later as we go through the department. Thank you.

From what I understand, the main problem here is that the detachment is looking for an in-kind service. It was stated a couple of days back that we just have a $3.8 million increase in the Justice department.

Will the Minister ensure the detachment in Fort McPherson has adequate funds to secure accommodation so they can overnight in the community? Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 58)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I’d like to recognize two Pages from the Mackenzie Delta, Gordon Blake and Randy Omingmak. Also, their chaperone, Ms. Elizabeth Wright.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 57)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I have a couple of questions for the Minister of Justice. It’s been almost a year now since there was an offer for proposals to offer on-the-land programming in the Mackenzie Delta region. Why did it take so long and also has the department selected a successful candidate to offer the program? Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 57)

Mr. Speaker, that’s great. In the past we had a great program offered just outside of Aklavik.

When does the Minister see the programs starting again in the Delta region? Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I too will say a few words on the budget dialogue that has happened over the last three years. When this first began in one of the communities we even had a peaceful demonstration, which showed great support for the Inuvik-Tuk Highway Project and that is one of our priorities that we have undertaken over the last couple of years. Also with the Fibre Optic Link.

Those investments in the Beaufort-Delta region really needed to happen. Before that it was very slow up in the region, but now there’s a lot of jobs happening over the winter season, a lot of people working, a...

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 57)

I’d just like to ask the Minister, what type of facility is required to offer this program? Thank you.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 56)

Thank you. A number of years back, I think it was in the mid ‘80s or so, there was the HAP program. A number of people took advantage of that in the communities. Residents were given the opportunity for materials and it was up them to either put in labour or a lot of them constructed their own houses throughout the territory in all the communities. There are a lot of people out there that would like to see a similar program like that moving forward. Are the Minister and the department looking at that sort of program in the near future?

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 56)

Thank you, Mr. Chair. I just want to ask a quick question to the Premier. It seems like a lot of these positions are, well, they are all out here in headquarters. I’d like to ask the Premier, when do they plan to decentralize some of these positions?
