Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 161)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I too want to just thank the mover of the motion and the seconder for their intent of the motion. I think a good review that will take place with the next Assembly will be we'll know what happened and what was wrong and what was right and but I'm not going to be questioning some of the you know, I want to remain calm because that's what my constituents would appreciate. I know for a fact as a former chief of the Salt River First Nation that I've been chief for 14 years, and Indigenous governments in the community of Fort Smith were always kept informed throughout the...

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 161)

Thank you, Madam Chair. The other question I want to ask also is about the capital budget. Is this going to affect the capital budget items that we are going to be discussing in September? I'm concerned, now that we have such a bad fire season, I want to make sure that, you know, the the new fire centre is still on the books because, you know, this is what happens, and if we ever lose that data that's in that in that old building in my community, we are in big trouble. And, you know, I'm saying this because it affects not only the community of Fort Smith, it affects the whole Northwest...

Yes, Madam Chair.

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 160)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I just want to reinforce my belief in the expansion of the Taltson as a greater greener energy. I don't always agree with my colleague, and I want to make sure that there has to be some support for the staff and the direction that is taken for greener energy and for climate change in the Northwest Territories. You know, we have to give the new president and their staff an opportunity to do that. It hasn't been long since he's been in that position. There are some things that are not quite right with regards to how it's done, but I just want to make sure that greener...

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 160)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I think that this navigator housing navigator with a neutral approach would be the answer to some of the issues that many of us have been bringing forward. Especially myself, I felt that I didn't get this is the one file that I feel that many times that I failed on. As a very strong I feel like a strong MLA who navigates for people who have not been treated fairly within the system. And I still feel that way. And with the new policy that has come out for homelessness and all that, I hope that changes, and I look forward to change. And I think it should be a priority...

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 160)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, you know, strong leadership with such a need within the whole Northwest Territories for the underprivileged that do not have housing is a mandate of ours, and I want to make sure that the person that is allocated to these positions are completely neutral and without judgement and navigate the system. Strong leadership within leadership with elected officials is extremely important and must give direction. And I want to know if the Minister agrees with me? Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 160)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, today I would like to end this session on a positive note. First, I want to wish all the Indigenous leaders across the NWT a safe and wonderful summer. As a former chief, I want to wish my former colleagues well and hope they, along with their constituents, all have great summer assemblies this year. In addition, Mr. Speaker, I want to wish all my colleagues here in this House, including you, Mr. Speaker, a good and restful summer. I'd also like to thank the staff of the Legislative Assembly for always helping to ensure we're on track and following all...
