Mr. Speaker, today I am going to speak further to my statement from last week about human resources and the many structural issues pertaining to barriers for people seeking employment with the Government of the Northwest Territories.

In the four days since I delivered that statement, I was approached by at least ten people in Yellowknife whom I've never met before. These folks were Indigenous, nonIndigenous, and other minority backgrounds.

They all said that I am on the right track and encouraged me to continue with this new level of inquiry regarding human resources.

Mr. Speaker, between 2016 and 2020, there was a total of 303 appeals to Human Resources hiring decisions; however, only 17 of those appeals were upheld, and all appeals all together were denied in 20192020. Does the Minister believe these statistics are fair and are not indicative of broader issues with the appeal process in Human Resources? Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Mr. Speaker, does the Minister recognize that hiring staff have sometimes retaliated against certain individuals based on the applicant and employee's association with certain people whom hiring staff doesn't know or like personally? Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Mr. Speaker, in my discussions with Chief Jerry Antoine, he said the Government of the Northwest Territories needs to establish a singular point of contact between Fort Simpson and the Premier's office to ensure better communications are established immediately, and he wants this contact to be someone in a position of authority. Will the Premier establish that point of contact? Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, yesterday I was contacted by Chief Jerry Antoine of the Fort Smith First Nation regarding the recent flooding in the Deh Cho region. As a friend and former colleague, the Chief wanted me to pass on a message to the Premier of some ideas for how communication with those on the ground can be improved and how restoration can be done as effectively as possible.

Mr. Speaker, the message from the Chief is that the Government of the Northwest Territories needs to establish a single point of contact who will work directly with the community leads on the ground...

The Standing Committee on Government Operations has reviewed the 20192020 Annual Report of the Northwest Territories Ombud. The committee thanks Ms. Colette Langlois, Northwest Territories' Ombud, for her appearance before the Committee on December the 9th, 2020.

The Ombud is a statutory officer of the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly under the Ombud Act. The Ombud investigates complaints from people who feel they have been treated...
