Statements in Debates

Debates of , (day 14)

Does the committee agree?

Debates of , (day 14)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, I would like to follow up on the questions asked by Ms. Lee here with respect to the statement made in the House today by Mr. Zoe, and my questions will be directed to the Premier, as well. I would like to say, also for the record, that I am not satisfied with the statement that was made in the House today. I think it was sugar coated. I think that there are a lot more things that happened. It is not just about an altercation, it is not just about the Royal Canadian Legion. This is not about the Royal Canadian Legion, and I must say I was a little...

Debates of , (day 14)

Thank you, Mr. Roland. At this time, I will ask Mr. Menicoche, as the Chair of the Standing Committee on Accountability and Oversight, if he would like to provide the committee’s review of this bill.

Debates of , (day 14)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, the work of the Legislative Assembly is unique. Relatively few people will have the experience of representing the interests of others in this capacity. It is work that can be little known or sometimes understood by the average person who may not need to engage the support or services of their MLA. For this reason I believe that it is very important to find creative ways of providing awareness and engaging our constituents in what we do. One way of doing this is through programs that reach out to the curiosity and eager minds of young people. We have...

Debates of , (day 14)

So is the wish of the committee that we would consider Bill 6 and Committee Report 5-15(3) concurrently first?

Debates of , (day 14)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, the Premier in his last response, said that he immediately took action to inform the Members of what happened. Yes, he could have buried this and tried to hide it. I don’t think that would have done any good. This is a small town. It’s a small territory. I do commend the Premier and I did tell him after I received the letter, I did commend him for taking the action that he did and not ignoring the situation. However, I still fail to see why he is putting himself and his government and his Cabinet under this kind of pressure to say one more chance. Could...

Debates of , (day 14)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I would like the Premier to spell out for me what “we’ll deal with it “means. What will he do?

Debates of , (day 14)

Mr. Speaker, maybe the Premier could share with us his understanding of a Cabinet Minister’s responsibility as to when they are on duty, and when are they representing this government and the views of this government. Is this just during working hours, or what obligations does a Cabinet Minister have in terms of the things that come out of their mouths and the actions that they take in public? Thank you.

Debates of , (day 14)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, without the exact wording, would the Premier share with the House what were the nature of the comments that Mr. Zoe made? Thank you.

Debates of , (day 13)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker, and thank you, colleagues. Mr. Speaker, we have tenant relation officers and income support workers who should be in a position to warn people about the consequences of leaving public housing, and also not paying their rent and leaving debts owing to housing authorities. Mr. Speaker, people generally want to avoid being homeless if they can help it. I believe that, and they need to make informed choices, but, Mr. Speaker, they also need to know the rules. Public housing is usually people who are in difficult circumstances, and it needs to be viewed as such. We have...
