Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, I would like to recognize my constituent Julie Thrasher who, unfortunately, I can't see from where I sit. But Julie is a Great Slave constituent, also originally from Inuvik, and also a strong supporter in the community, often feeding and helping the vulnerable population. So I just wanted to say thank you to Julie for that work; it's well needed. So thank you; welcome.

Bill 80, a Private Member's bill advanced by the MLA for Kam Lake, received second reading in the Legislative Assembly on March 30th, 2023, and was referred to the Standing Committee on Social Development for review. The standing committee held a public hearing in Yellowknife on May 12th, 2023. Committee heard from two stakeholders and received two written submissions on the bill. Mr. Speaker, I have spent the time since I left Yellowknife late Thursday evening dealing with numerous uncountable emails and messages and phone calls from people who have been evacuating and leaving the North. Many of these people are Indigenous. They have been reaching out to me. And in my time spent since this has started, I have become aware that there were no conversations with Indigenous governments ahead of all of this evacuation. No opportunity for Indigenous...

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, I've heard others say that this is not the time for this conversation in the middle of an emergency. However, I would completely disagree with that statement. This is exactly the time now to bring the Indigenous governments in and use them to bring their people home. They know who their people are. They're looking for them themselves. So bringing them in as soon as possible would actually avoid more catastrophe down south that we're hearing about as Regular Members. I understand that Cabinet is very busy, so perhaps they haven't had the time to really delve...
