Statements in Debates
Mr. Speaker, I wish to table the following document entitled “Annual Report on the Activities of the Rental Office April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016.” Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Mr. Speaker, I move, seconded by the honourable Member for Hay River South that Bill 6, Miscellaneous Statute Law Amendment Act, 2016, be read for the first time. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Mr. Speaker, I move, seconded by the honourable Member for Yellowknife South, that Bill 8, An Act to Amend the Children’s Law Act, be read for the first time. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Mr. Chair, effectively, it's closed now. I don't think there's any staff there. As I mentioned, the lawyer has moved, as I understand it, to take a position in a clinic in Yellowknife, and the staff person has found other employment. So it's effectively closed now. Thank you, Mr. Chair.
Mr. Chair, only to say that we are aware of this issue and concern. Thank you, Mr. Chair.
Yes, I would, Mr. Chair.
Mr. Chair, I would suggest that Ms. Schofield could provide some information. Thank you, Mr. Chair.
Mr. Chair, one of the positions that has also been vacant is the Fort McPherson court worker position, which has not been filled for some time. Those are the three positions. Thank you, Mr. Chair.
Mr. Chair, we're not contemplating that that will have any effect on access to justice; I understand this is a registry position. Thank you, Mr. Chair.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, significant discovery declarations do fall within responsibility of OROGO, but significant discovery licence are obtained from ITI, so I'm not sure whether the Minister of ITI would like to respond to that portion of the question. I can advise that there has not been much significant activity of any kind in the Member's constituency or throughout the Northwest Territories in the last couple of years since these matters were devolved to us.
