Statements in Debates
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I speak in support of this motion. I believe bullying has to stop and should be stamped out in the communities, and in our homes and also generally in society.
I would like to also thank my colleague and acknowledge the leadership of Mr. Daryl Dolynny for bringing this forward, plus to acknowledge the students that are involved in this project today and this initiative.
I think this is a start. Ultimately, we should be aspiring to ensure that bullying as a practice should not be condoned or tolerated. It should be stopped. We need government action. Mahsi.
I’d like to thank the Minister for his reply. My question is just to follow up on the first. Seeing that we have a theme and we need to muster up our athletes and get them prepared, what is the theme this year for the Arctic Winter Games, seeing that it’s been a common practice for the Northern Territories to come together and share in culture, spirit, and sports?
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Respect, kindness, caring, love, peace, these are core values that we are taught as children. These values if learned and upheld become the fabric of our society values that binds people and nations together.
Bullying is a harmful and sometimes tragic and despicable act committed by a person upon another person, often a child or an elder. Bullying leaves wounds that are visible and painful injuries, and sometimes leads to the tragic ending of someone taking one’s own life. What is more disturbing is that bullying leads to internal and lasting pain, and mental and social...
My question is in terms of what would be maybe a friendly projection in terms of how much gold our athletes might bring back to Yellowknife.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I don’t want to deviate from today’s theme of bullying, but I don’t believe bullying should be tolerated and I think there should be efforts by this government to try to stamp it out and make it stop so that kids enjoy the best years of their lives just experiencing life in general and not having the burden of responsibilities that we adults have.
My question today is to the Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs. Seeing that it’s only about three weeks or so left before our team travels all the way to Whitehorse to participate in the Arctic Winter Games, can the...

Mr. Speaker, the Deh Cho Land Use Planning Committee is pleased to announce that Joachim Bonnetrouge has been appointed as chair. His appointment is effective immediately.
Mr. Joachim Bonnetrouge was born on the land in Fort Providence. He attended 13 years of residential school, graduating with a diploma from high school in Fort Smith. He went on to study at college in Edmonton and Ottawa.
Mr. Bonnetrouge served the community of Fort Providence and the Deh Cho region in many capacities, including community development worker, Dene Zhatie...
Thank you. I, as well, will be voting against the motion, but at the same time I want to ensure that this project proceeds forward, but again, without trepidation from this side of the House including the perspective that I share with my colleagues from this side. In the end we need to ensure that the wealth of government plus industry, if it ever is realized for all parts of the North, will be shared and everybody will have a job. I think, ultimately, that’s what we’re trying to strive for. But at the same time, we want to ensure that we have a good fiscal plan, we have a good management...
Supporting the long-gun registry and the government, what measures is the department taking in the likelihood that the bill is passed and becomes law in terms of respecting the uniqueness of the North and also some of the cultural values respecting long guns?
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Bill C-19 is before the House of Commons, likely this week. It will be considered and more likely passed over to the Senate. In my Member’s statement I want to just illustrate just a great cultural divide, and I wanted to take a moment speaking in my language and I want to end off in just capturing the essence of the differences that we’re experiencing right now.
[English translation not provided.]
Mr. Speaker, my point of using my language illustrates barriers to communication but also illustrates that a law that is before the House of Commons disrespects one’s culture...
Thank you. I’m speaking in favour of this commitment that we’re making to ensure that the northernmost part of the Northwest Territories realizes some opportunities of ensuring that overall a development of the Mackenzie Highway is completed. I support this initiative to ensure that a major infrastructure project of that nature is realized, that it be linked to the overall development of the Mackenzie Valley Highway.
I realize the significance of the $2.5 million that’s been committed. Also at the same time I realize that it’s part of our duty as government to ensure that we do share costs of...
