Statements in Debates

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 1st Session (day 6)

Thank you, Madam Chair. My question is about the territorial electronic medical records system. Can I just get an overview of what that system will entail and how it’s going to be implemented?

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 1st Session (day 6)

This government being fairly new, I guess, has the department looked at the new priorities of this government? Namely, decentralization and some of the effects that that would have on office demands in the Yellowknife area.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 1st Session (day 6)

My next question is more of a comment or a concern. My concern is: Has the department looked at the future demands of departments in the Yellowknife area? My concerns are that the space that we’re emptying right now may be swallowed up by the future demands of departments. As everybody is aware here, a few years ago we had division. There was probably a lot of empty office space. Now we’re full again. I’m just wondering if we’re going to have that same problem three to five years from now, that we’re going to be full again and going to have to build another building. Did the department look at...

So is Mr. Guy’s referral thinking that they’re in favour of it?

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 1st Session (day 6)

Just one other question. My other question was an issue from one of the students in my constituency, who indicated that the core of the review for residency is fairly lengthy. Would the department look to streamline that process as well?

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 1st Session (day 4)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I give notice that on Monday, December 12, 2011, I will be moving the following motion: Now therefore I move, seconded by the honourable Member for Mackenzie Delta, that this Assembly recommend to the Commissioner of the Northwest Territories that the appointment of William Turner as a member of the Human Rights Commission be revoked effectively immediately.

Mr. Speaker, at the appropriate time I will be seeking unanimous consent to deal with this motion today.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 1st Session (day 4)

Can the Minister of Transportation inform me of any discussions the department has had recently with the federal government on dredging?

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 1st Session (day 4)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. As I discussed in my Member’s statement about dredging, my question today would be to the Minister of Transportation. Does the territorial government have any dredging plans in the Northwest Territories currently?

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 1st Session (day 4)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. As the mover of the motion and a Member of the Board of Management I rise to say a few words. As you know, amongst other responsibilities, the Board of Management has a significant role with the administration of a number of laws and the appointment of statutory officers under those laws. One of our responsibilities is to appoint the members to the Human Rights Commission. We have taken this responsibility very seriously, Mr. Speaker.

When we appoint people to the statutory position, we appoint them with the confidence that we are appointing the people that best reflect...
