Debates of , 17th Assembly, 4th Session (day 24)

In a number of communities, as I’ve said before, they do take it upon themselves to do some fundraising for this exact piece of equipment. In some cases through the community government with the money that they receive from MACA as far as infrastructure goes, then they may have an opportunity to access some of that. We would have to work on it again and see what we can do to assist the communities again.

Communities, in many cases, take it upon themselves to try and access all this type of equipment, and we would assist them in trying to find the best pieces of equipment and giving them more of...

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 4th Session (day 24)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. First of all I want to commend the people of Tulita and all the other communities that have good emergency plans. They seem to jump into action right away and they deal with the situations that are presented before them. We work closely with a number of the communities. We’ve been trying to work with them to update their emergency plans. As I’ve said in this House before, we have 16 communities that are updated. There are 15 we still have to work on updating theirs and there are a couple that we need to get them started on theirs. There is plenty of opportunity. A lot...

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 4th Session (day 24)

Mr. Speaker, I would have to get that detail for the Member. Obviously, if something does happen on the highway, there’s a protocol that has to be followed. For specific events, I will gather the information and share it with the Member. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 4th Session (day 24)

Thank you, Madam Chair. We don’t exactly know what the process is going to be yet in Deline. Obviously, what we had to go through with this one, I think will be valuable, good information for those going forward. We’re not quite sure at this point.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 4th Session (day 23)

Thank you. I’ll take the Member’s question as notice.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 4th Session (day 23)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. On behalf of the Minister of Transportation, I wish to table the following two documents, entitled Tuktoyaktuk Highway Project Risk Matrix as of March 11, 2013, and GNWT Response to Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway Project Review Panel Report. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 4th Session (day 20)

We haven’t started any work yet, as I’ve said before. This is one aspect that we’d probably benefit from a full review. We look at our legislation based on the basis of risk, and we look at the potential risks and benefits of a number of persons that are affected by legislation, and we do have some pieces of legislation that we’re working on right now and we need to weigh that against looking at future legislation.

I do agree with the Member, though, it is one that would benefit from a full review. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 4th Session (day 20)

Mr. Speaker, a lack of affordable, adequate and suitable housing creates challenges in recruiting staff for the GNWT, Aboriginal governments and for community governments. Staff need homes to live in if they are going to continue delivering the programs and services the people of the NWT rely on their governments for.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 4th Session (day 20)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. There were a couple of minor amendments made to the Real Estate Agents’ Licensing Act. There was a minor amendment made in 2010, and another minor amendment that came into force in April of 2011. However, the Member is correct; this is a very outdated piece of legislation and it’s one that could benefit from a full review. I will weigh this against our other legislative priorities and see where it fits into the legislative priorities of the 17th Assembly.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 4th Session (day 19)

Well, the working group are looking at all these different issues right now and they’re coming up with ways, some options, and also looking at the cost. I think it’s been mentioned in this House before, if we were to look at the cost of implementing the overall ambulance service across the Northwest Territories, it would be quite high. So they’re exploring all these options.

As far as an actual timeline goes, I don’t have the actual timeline. I know that they are looking at a number of different issues, but I will keep the Members up to date on the work that they’re doing and hopefully we can...
