Statements in Debates
Thank you, Madam Speaker. So I am pleased that the Minister was listening. Is the Minister aware of the use of combination of amber and blue lights for tow trucks in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and they use that to increase safety when they're responding to accidents? Thank you.
Thank you, Madam Speaker. Madam Speaker, it is clear from the Minister's answer in this House last Friday that she is committed to the placement of two medical social workers in Hay River. I would ask the Minister if the funding for the positions would be longterm and secure going forward. Thank you.
Thank you, Mr. Chair. To my left is Stephen Flanagan, legislative drafter. To my right is Glen Rutland, deputy clerk, House procedure and committees. Thank you, Mr. Chair.
Thank you, Madam Speaker. Madam Speaker, with staffing issues facing our healthcare system, will the Minister confirm if her department has considered the need to establish, for smaller communities, a shared medical social worker position that would provide wrap around services. Thank you, Madam Speaker.
Thank you, Mr. Chair. Mr. Chair, I am pleased to speak to Bill 59: An Act to amend the Elections and Plebiscites Act. The bill proposes some changes to the act. These are being made on the recommendation of the chief electoral officer and the Standing Committee on Rules and Procedure. If passed, the changes will be in place for the next general election in 2023.
Some changes relate to the register of electors (voters list). If the bill is passed, Elections NWT will be able to share information from the voters list with municipalities running elections and the Electoral Boundaries Commission. 16...
Thank you, Madam Speaker. I'd like to recognize oh, yeah, I can see them now. Julianne Fuller, the mother of one of the pages, and also Pierre Benoit Rondeau Chalifoux who is the chaperone for the pages. And I'd like to recognize two of the pages from Hay River that are here, Jackson Fuller and Francis Cook, and they're both from Ecole Boreale. Thank you.
Thank you, Mr. Chair. I will turn that over to Mr. Mercer. Thank you.
Thank you, Madam Speaker. Can the Minister also confirm if the medical social workers would be required to have, I guess, clients just attend the health centre or their offices where they're working at, or would the person be able to go out on the street and to where actually, you know, clients are and, you know, people who probably wouldn't normally attend to the hospital, because I guess I'm just thinking about Hay River and the number of people on the street there and, you know, some of the things that she did mention is probably things that we as MLAs already do in the community. So, you...
Thank you, Madam Speaker. We have issues you know, people on the street have issues with, you know, addictions and health issues. We also have people who are in isolation that have those similar issues. And what I see that would be beneficial for, at least the community of Hay River and because it's a regional centre, is if we had access to medical social services people. And I would ask the Minister if there are any such positions within either the NTHSSA or the Hay River Health and Social Services Authority at this point? Thank you.
Thank you, Madam Speaker. Madam Speaker, the federal government has the National Disaster Mitigation Program which provides communities access to financial support for risk assessment, flood mapping, mitigation planning, and investments in nonstructural and smallscale structural mitigation projects. Municipal and local governments, public sector bodies, private sector bodies, Indigenous governments, and nongovernmental organizations can make applications to this program.
Madam Speaker, apart from raising the road along Riverview Drive, little appears to have been determined on what mitigation...
