Debates of , 16th Assembly, 4th Session (day 33)

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I do have a question on this page. The $315,000 that is identified here to complete the planning study rebalancing the portfolio of owned versus leased office space. My question is not I support the project. I guess I’m just wondering why this needs to be in a supplementary appropriation, why this couldn't wait for the next infrastructure budget.

Thanks to the Minister. That information is all good. If for any reason all of that funding falls through, what are the plans for the department in terms of putting detachments in communities where there are none? Is there an outline or a timeline of a schedule that the Minister can advise us of? Thank you.

Thank you, Mr. Chair. Oh, look, I have 10 minutes.

Thank you, Mr. Chair. I wanted to provide a couple of comments on this supp. In general, I’ve mentioned this before, I am always amazed at the amount of money that Finance comes back for after we pass an initial budget and asks for more money, and the amount of money that is asked for kind of blows me away. In looking at the items that are in this particular supp, there certainly are some which I can agree with. I think the $1.8 million, no, sorry, it’s one point whatever, but the money that’s required for the Mackenzie Valley Highway project...

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I guess I should look at you when I lift my hand so you know I’m looking at you.

Thanks for that explanation. I’m very glad to hear that. It sounds as though we are being very positive about wanting to keep this industry here. Judging by the information that I’ve been given, this is a long-term mining project and one that’s going to benefit our Territory, particularly the South Slave for a long time to come. So I think we need to do as much as we can to encourage this industry to locate themselves within the NWT as opposed to outside.

The last time we got information from Avalon there was a bit of a suggestion that they haven’t really had a lot of meetings with either the...

That’s great to hear that. I would just like to know, once the information has gone to committee, is it the intention of the Minister to publish the results of this consultation to the general public? Thank you.

Debates of , 16th Assembly, 4th Session (day 31)

Thank you, Mr. Chair. I just have a couple of questions. The first one references the study and the potential changes to the Business Incentive Plan, which has been out there being studied, being reviewed for quite some time. I wonder if I can get an update from the Minister on where the consultation on potential changes to the BIP is at and whether or not there is any plan to make changes. Thank you, Mr. Chair.

Debates of , 16th Assembly, 4th Session (day 31)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. My questions are for the Minister responsible for the NWT Power Corporation.

What kilowatt hour rates has the NWT Power Corporation charged to Northland Utilities in each of those communities where Northland Utilities provides the services within the community, from the year 2000 to present?

What kilowatt hour base rate has the NWT Power Corporation charged to residential customers in each of its NWT communities from the year 2000 to present?

Debates of , 16th Assembly, 4th Session (day 31)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, today I want to pay tribute to the Yellowknife Association of Concerned Citizens for Seniors, or YACCS. YACCS was formed in 1983 by a group of Yellowknife citizens concerned about issues facing YK seniors and it’s governed by a volunteer board.

From its inception, YACCS has worked continuously to achieve its mission and that mission is building a supportive community for the health of seniors. YACCS first accomplishment was to plan for and build a long-term care facility. Aven Manor, which opened in 1987, is a 29-bed facility for NWT seniors who require...

Thanks to the Minister. That’s all I have.
