Dene Zhatıé Language Added to Legislative Assembly’s Audio Tour

(YELLOWKNIFE) Friday, June 21, 2024 – The Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly is pleased to announce the addition of the Dene Zhatıé language to the self-guided audio tour, in celebration of Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous People’s Day. This marks a significant step towards supporting language revitalization, highlighting the Official Languages of the Northwest Territories, increasing the availability of services offered in the Official Languages, and advancing reconciliation.

The Dene Zhatıé audio tour is available on the “Smartify” App for mobile phones. To take the tour, users need to download the Smartify app and can find the Dene Zhatıé version of the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly audio tour in Smartify’s tour inventory (along withTłı̨chǫ, English, French).

The Dene Zhatıé tour was translated and narrated by legislative interpreter Mary Jane Cazon.

The tour touches on Northwest Territories history, the Mace, the architecture of the building, and consensus government. It also aims to inform visitors about the Legislative Assembly and welcoming them to “The Place of the People”.

Members of the public can take the self-guided audio tour anytime the building is open to the public: weekdays from 7:00AM to 6:00PM and weekends from 10:00AM to 6:00PM.
