Statements in Debates

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 3rd Session (day 60)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. The Minister seems to be answering questions that aren't being asked. Nobody is asking industry not to pay these rates. We're talking about the rates, and whether or not they can be rebalanced to be fairer, given the government's rate. Florists and yarn and fabric stores pay $2.50, again, compared to 88 cents. Will the Minister sit down with industry and have a meaningful conversation with them so that he can get a better understanding of what their concerns are? Quite clearly, he doesn't get it. Thank you.

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 3rd Session (day 60)

Thank you, Mr. Chair. The Film Commissioner and the office around the Film Commissioner works very hard to do exactly that, and I think the additional support will be great, but marketing and bringing productions here is only half the equation. The way to expand the industry is to actually build that local production capacity so you can have creators and film crews and technicians and engineers and all those people who make movies permanently based here. That's the way we can diversify the economy as well. Local economies in regions that have been successful in this have always built very...

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 3rd Session (day 60)

I think we're well aware of the purpose of the commission. The Minister in response to the previous questions mentioned the GNWT rate which is about 93 cents. I just wonder if that applies across the board to all GNWT employees, all GNWT departments, regardless of the actual work being done? Is there only one rate for the Government of the Northwest Territories?

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 3rd Session (day 59)

Thank you. This line of policy planning and communication, I am assuming that is where the department houses its policy analysts and the people who would undertake policy development and legislative development. Am I incorrect in that? Thank you.

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 3rd Session (day 59)

Thank you. Just to be clear, because this new appropriation to support the division hasn't been approved, where are the resources for the people doing the work under what has been proposed? Where are those resources coming from, as they have not yet been approved? Thank you.

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 3rd Session (day 59)

How many positions are in this division and does this money support? Thank you.

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 3rd Session (day 59)

Will this also include the Taltson expansion project? Thank you.

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 3rd Session (day 59)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, I wish to report to the Assembly that the Standing Committee on Government Operations has reviewed Bill 31, Northwest Territories 9-1-1 Act, and that Bill 31 is now ready for consideration in Committee of the Whole. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 3rd Session (day 59)

If the Minister doesn't have the data, then how does he know that security lines have been reduced by 30 percent? His officials are telling the City of Yellowknife it is going to be 60 percent. He is telling this House it is 30 percent, and now he is telling this House he doesn't have the numbers to justify additional expansions of security time. How is the Minister getting his information?

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 3rd Session (day 59)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, earlier in the sitting, my honourable friend from Yellowknife North asked the Minister responsible for Infrastructure some questions surrounding security delays of the YZF Airport. At that time, the Minister identified that the Canadian Air Transportation Security Authority staffing was the biggest problem and the cause of these delays. A recent CBC article, on February 20th, had a response from CATSA on these delays, and they said that an additional security line was never part of the airport renovation plan that they submitted to the agency, and if the...
