Mr. Speaker, I move this motion because the Government of the Northwest Territories I want the Government of the Northwest Territories to acknowledge that housing is a fundamental human right for residents of the Northwest Territories. This has been recognized by the United Nations, by several countries including Canada.

The motion asks the GNWT to elevate the role of Indigenous partners into the legislation. It also creates a position that is dedicated to evaluating the outcomes of Housing NWT in legislation.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, today I wish to speak about a topic of holistic health and the need for our communities to heal from historic traumas. Mr. Speaker, most of the social issues that Indigenous communities face today, such as health inequities, lack of education, high crime rates, and higher rates of homelessness, are because of colonialism and residential schools.
