Appointment of New Sergeant-at-Arms

(YELLOWKNIFE) Thursday, October 24, 2024 – The Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Chris Comeau as the new Sergeant-at-Arms.

The Sergeant-at-Arms plays a critical role as a permanent Officer of the House, responsible for maintaining order, decorum, and security within the Legislative Assembly. This position oversees the Assembly's security and safety programs to ensure the well-being of Members, staff, and visitors.

Mr. Comeau is of Indigenous decent and is a resident of Yellowknife, NT. Mr. Comeau is originally from Hay River, and he brings over 26 years of public service experience with the Department of Justice, Government of the Northwest Territories. His extensive background includes many different key roles within the Corrections Service, such as Warden, Deputy Warden, and Adjudication and Investigations Specialist.

“I am pleased to welcome Chris Comeau as our new Sergeant-at-Arms,” says Shane Thompson, Speaker of the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly. “His leadership and expertise in security make him a valuable asset to the Legislative Assembly. I would also like to extend our deep gratitude to Floyd Powder for his dedicated service and wish him well in his retirement.”
