Debates of August 13, 2019 (day 82)
Thank you, Mr. Chair. As my colleague Mr. McEachern, noted, some will work on development of guidance documents from the regulator. I can't commit on timelines for those, but, from a GNWT perspective, development of, say, policy regarding the new environmental stage management board consultation, nominations and that sort of process may take some time, but I don't foresee it extending too far into the future.
I will send it back to Mr. O'Reilly. Perhaps he can clarify and ask again. Mr. O'Reilly.
Thanks, Mr. Chair. I thought it was a relatively straightforward question, but it is nice to see the agreement at the table. I think that this is a complicated piece of legislation. I get it. What I would like to do, then, is get a commitment out of the Minister to provide Regular MLAs and maybe even the public a bit of an implementation plan for how this is going to roll out, but I would like to get that information before the end of this Assembly. I think that the public deserves to know, and industry deserves to know, how these changes are going to roll out. If it involves developing some regulations, some policy guidance around those, put it in a table and tell us when they anticipate that information is generally going to be available or finished and rolled out, so that people know when these new requirements are going to come into effect.
Can the Minister make that commitment to provide an implementation plan to Regular MLAs and the public before the end of this Assembly? Thanks, Mr. Chair.
Thank you. Minister.
Thank you, Mr. Chair. Yes, we will certainly make that commitment. Thank you, Mr. Chair.
Thank you. Mr. O'Reilly.
Thanks, Mr. Chair. I appreciate that. I understand that this is complicated. Now I will push my luck. If we can even get it before the end of next week, that would be even better. I will leave that with the Minister and his staff; they are laughing over there at me, but we have a shelf life here, and I would like to get that information before mine expires. Thanks, Mr. Chair.
Thank you. More of a comment. Minister, would you care to respond? Minister.
Thank you, Mr. Chair. We will have a look at it, and we will do the best that we can. If we can accommodate that timeline, we will certainly do it, but if it is going to take longer, I will let the Member know. Thank you, Mr. Chair.
