Bill 13: Marriage Act
Mr. Speaker, I move, seconded by the honourable Member for Range Lake that Bill 13, The Marriage Act, be read for the second time. This bill sets out the rules for governing marriages in the Northwest Territories. It sets out eligibility, the requirements and the process for getting married in both civil and religious ceremonies. It also creates prohibitions and offences. Lastly, it provides for administrative measures such as the appointment of registration of officials, authorizes the making of regulations and, consequently, amends the Vital Statistics Act.
