Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 108)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I'll try to do it from here but it's probably going to miss some few things that we do at the Department of Lands.

As the Member for Thebacha was talking about, we're trying to get the regulations done for the so we can then do the public lands enforcement. We're modernizing the land use only policy, revised project assessment policy. We talked about securities, project assessment. We were working on industry surface review. So we're working out there, land use and sustainability. I'm missing one, sorry. I had it written down here.

We're also doing a review of the...

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Sorry about that.

Mr. Speaker, spring jamborees and carnivals have been a fixture of the social calendar of many NWT communities throughout the year. This is a time for residents to gather for traditional skills competitions, dances, games, and most importantly tame together to catch up. Unfortunately, the last couple years have been seen a modified or cancelled jamborees or carnivals across the NWT. Many factors were considered on how they would run the event during the COVID pandemic. Ultimately, it was about protecting the health and safety of Northerners and our...

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 103)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, I thank the Member for that question. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has a number of existing programs that support trapping. ENR provides ongoing trapping training in the communities across the NWT for trappers to ensure they can get top quality for pelts sold at auctions. We have new actions that can help support young and middleaged adults, as well as women. ENR has been working with the Indigenous governments to develop a pilot program for trapper mentorship. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 103)

I don't want to give the wrong answers so I'm going to turn to the deputy minister. I think I know what the answer is, and I think it starts with Y, but I'm going to turn to the deputy minister for clarity on that. Thank you.

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 103)

Yeah, I thank the Member for that. And yeah, when I was at COP, we had those conversations with our counterparts, the provincial counterparts. It's been in conversations we've had on PTFs. We've been making having those conversations and we've been very clear that these are we're living it and this is how we need help. And to BC and Ontario's credit, both Ministers were very receptive of that. Thank you.

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 103)

So these pots of monies were developed for specific projects and that. But we can go look back at this but right now, we have earmarked for certain projects that under each title. But we can go back and look at this. Thank you.

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 103)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, emergency process is local, regional, territory. We as Government of the Northwest Territories do not interfere and get out the communications for the communities. We work with the community. We follow their path, their direction. And if they ask us for the region we then go out there. We do not also interfere with the RCMP. They have a communication strategy and a plan. But on my understanding there will be a lessons learned with this. We will be working with Justice and Health and the community and the RCMP on this. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 103)
